Floral & Fresh

Made from the highest quality, hand-selected Viura, Malvasía, Garnacha Blanca, and other grapes from small, old, hilltop vineyard parcels (parcelas) on limestone soils. About a third of the wine is fermented in semi-new oak barrels of top-quality French oak, for added texture and complexity, but without overt oak character.

Subtle but intriguing nose that opens up in the glass, stone fruit, herbal and white flowers. Juicy and refreshing on the palate, with real poise and length, showing a chalky, mineral finish. The quality of the fruit shines, showing how interesting an old-vine Viura blend can be without being masked by heavy use of oak.

Bideona

Bideona owns or manages over 300 parcels of extraordinary vines in villages throughout the Rioja Alavesa, the coolest, smallest and most Atlantic sub-zone of Spain’s most famous wine region.

The vineyards of the Rioja Alavesa are defined by parcels of old bush vines planted on terraces or hillside slopes with a high percentage of limestone. Located in the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria, Bideona’s vines have an average age of 50 years and many were planted in the 1920s, 30s and 40s, before high-yielding clones became available.

Bideona puts the focus firmly on terroir by making each wine in its Vino de Pueblo range as a field blend of Tempranillo and other native varieties from plots in an individual village. Each is named with an acronym – L3Z4 for Leza, L4GD4 for Laguardia, S4MG0 for Samaniego and V1BN4 for Villabuena – owing to DOCa Rioja regulations that only allow village names to be marked if both the winery and the vineyard are in the same location.

“Bideona’s reason for existence is to make wines that show the personality of the Rioja Alavesa and its historic wine villages” states company co-founder and director, Andreas Kubach MW. “We have access to a wealth of diverse plant material in our parcels of old vines, which we believe contributes to the complexity of the wines as well as the differences between villages.”

This is a high altitude, old vine viura from the foothills of the Cantambrian mountains in Rioja Alavesa. It has pure crystalline nose of lemon, pear, subtle chive and wet stone. It is crisp, taut and very well balanced with only 12.5% alcohol providing the sense of restraint. Really nicely done. The length is excellent. This should age very well, as the best white Riojas usually do, Might even expand its flavour profile. Tasted December 2024

92 points - Michael Godel

Quite the concentrated though also sharp and pointed white Rioja from Bideona called Las Parcelas which refers to the blocks chosen for this unique cuvée. Not just sharp but high acid to elevate the boldness of the build in a medium-bodied while also amply ripe viura that lowers significantly from 2020 to finish here at 12.6 percent alcohol. Comparatively speaking this is tighter and of a greater intensity without compromise, though fruit (other than citrus) does not dominate the poignancy of this truly salty vintage. Drink 2024-2027. Tasted December 2024.

A relative newcomer to Rioja, Bodega Bideona was founded in 2018 and is a joint venture between Basque entrepreneur and txakoli producer, Gorka Izagirre and Península Viticulores, which is run by two Masters of Wine Andreas Kubach and Sam Harrop. The estate manages 100 hectares of vineyards in 300 plots across the foothills of the Sierra de Catabria that include a site planted in 1920. The "Las Parcelas" Blanco is made from 100% viura from various sites and features almond, yellow apple, pear, and just-ripe white peach. This juicy, lightly oily find is high in acid and salty, chalky mineral. Offers an appealing texture, little to no oak, a very good concentration of flavours and notable structure. Features a firm finish of memorable length. Tasted December 2024.

91 points - John Szabo, MS

A 'regional' wine in the Bideona internal classification, produced from multiple parcels throughout the Rioja Alavesa, absent oak influence, this is yet another impeccably-made, balanced wine from this highly reliable estate. I love the sapid acids, drawing saliva, the slight tug of tannins framing the autumnal fruit, the lingering finish. Succulent and saline, delicious and fairly priced. Drink or hold 3-4 years for maximum benefits. Tasted December 2024.

With some of these states, for example Alabama, we are able to ship to an ABC store nearest to you.

It is rare to have a shipment damaged during shipping, however, in the event you do receive a damaged delivery, please let us know. We will need pictures and proof of damage so that we can resolve your claim. Damaged claims will not be accepted without proof. We will replace the wine or issue a credit. The choice is yours!

Deliveries that contain alcohol REQUIRE AN ADULT SIGNATURE. You must be 21 or older to purchase and accept said deliveries.

We cannot ship to PO Boxes, APO/FPO addresses, or internationally.

Shipping fees are not refundable under any circumstances.

There is an additional charge to re-route orders already in transit.

Some items are removed from original packaging, and placed in protective shipping containers to ensure safe delivery.

While most orders are shipped the day they are placed. The demand for limited supplies will occasionally deplete our stock of a paticular product, in this case it will generally take an additional 1 - 2 business days to receive the product and fufill the order.

Although it is rare, if there was a packing error, we would like to resolve it for you! In the event that we shipped an incorrect item, we may ask you to hold on to those items and the exsisting packaging so that we can arrange for a return pick up. If you find that items are missing from your order, we are happy to assist you in reshipping the missing items or processing a credit for the missing item/items. We will provide a return label for incorrect items and credit will be processd upon the return of the item to the warehouse. Reshipment of the correct items will be at no extra charge.

Occasionally a chosen vintage of a wine may sell out or be replaced by a new release after your order is placed. Bottles of wine that are under $20, will not hold up an order and we will simply automatically substitute the wine with the comparable vintage. Please be assured that we will only substitute with a vintage for the same wine. Wine that is valued more than $20 per bottle, we will attempt to contact the customer. After two attempts, the available vintage will be automatically shipped out. (The return policy of $15 return shipping costs, and 15% restocking fee will be enforced.)

Yiannis Wine will not be held liable for damages to orders due to weather conditions during shipping. Potential exposure to extreme heat or cold may damage items during shipping. As we can not be held responsible for products damaged due to weather, we suggest you choose FedEx Express to ship your items and/or add ice packs to your order (during extreme heat) to help prevent damages. We can also place your orders on weather hold until weather conditions improve. Wine is usually fine if it is exposed to some heat (as that is the way wine is made.....Heated so the yeast is activated). If your wine is warm, please place them in a cool, dark room so the wine can "settle."

Most returns will be accepted, but ALL bottles must be returned to get credit. A half bottle or empty bottle of something that did not taste GOOD is fine to return, but the customer will not receive full credit if the bottle is not included.

Sometimes an order is returned to our warehouse after several delivery attempts at the address provided by the customer. We are happy to reship the order however, reshipment fees will apply. Please contact us and we will assist you with the reshipment arrangements.

We are happy to assist with any returns for items purchased that you no longer want or need. Please let us know and we will arrange for the return and issue a credit or refund for your returned items, less the return shipping and handling charges.

We offer some of the most diverse wines in the business, and we are happy to help you choose wines and provide recommendations by our sommeliers if you desire. Everyone has different tastes and Yiannis Wine will not be held responsible for customer choice. While ratings, testimonials, and reviews may influence your decision, the ultimate judgement is yours.
