Disznókó Tokaji Aszú Eszencia 2007 (375ml)
Disznókó Tokaji Aszú Eszencia 2007 (375ml)
Tokaj is thought to be the first vineyard region in the world to have adopted a classification system and, incredibly, the entire Disznók? estate was classified as a first growth property in 1772 at the time of the initial classification by royal decree. In 1992, shortly after the fall of communism in Hungary, the estate was acquired by new owners and a long series of improvements initiated: the vineyards were rehabilitated and replanted, old buildings were refurbished, and new winemaking facilities were constructed. The new winery pays homage to the nearby old winery, and inside the new winery it quickly becomes apparent how Disznók? has, above any other estate in the region, restored Tokaji’s reputation to the days it was considered “the wine of kings and king of wines” (Louis XIV).
Disznók? spreads over 250 acres at the south-west entrance of the Tokaj region. Its beautiful classical building now houses one of the most famous restaurants in the area. In 1992 , the property was bought by Axa Millésimes. Disznók?’s entire estate’s vineyards today are still wholly classified as first growth. The estate is essentially a hill of volcanic clay soil with perlite pebbles: at the top of the hill is the boar-shaped rock from which the estate takes its name, and the vineyards are arranged down the southern slope, with the winery at the bottom of the slopes. The vineyard is protected by the cold northern winds by the Zemplén hills right behind it, and draws light and heat from its southerly exposure. Acclaimed as one of the three most favorable sites of Aszu in Tokaj. The slopes are planted with local Furmint, Harslevelu and Zéta and are open to the Plain. Morning autumn mists and warm breezes ensure optimal conditions for noble rot. The Botrytis develops, concentrating the natural sugars, flavors and acids in the grapes. The wines gain their fire from the mineral-rich volcanic land, rhyolite-tuff with clay soils.
There is something transparent, almost like crystal, about the wines and the 2007 vintage. The way everything came together, just perfectly, like a glider in a clear, blue sky. It is a vintage with finesse and refined fruit.
2007 is for me a unique and unprecedented vintage: the very hot and dry weather resulted in early budding, flowering and ripening. Then came the rain during the harvest season which allowed a lot of Botrytis to spread over the perfectly over-ripened grapes. It was a pleasure to watch. Complex and elegant wines were created that offer a silky structure and lush flavours.

"Mahogany coloured in the glass, this Eszencia draws you in with ethereal aromas of acacia honey, beeswax, caramelized pineapple upside-down cake, English toffee and apricot jam. These heady aromas transfer seamlessly onto the palate. It is hefty and voluptuous in mouthfeel yet silky smooth and creamy, with just the right amount of acidity to counteract the intense sweetness. Drink through 2035." -Jeff Jenssen

"This unctuous dessert wine melts in your mouth like cotton candy, rippling with flavors of pineapple upside-down cake, rhubarb pie filling, marmalade, and accents of toffee and cumin, a minerally tang of iodine echoing on the long, lasting finish. Drink now through 2030. 76 cases made." — AN

There is an additional charge to re-route orders already in transit.
Some items are removed from original packaging, and placed in protective shipping containers to ensure safe delivery.
While most orders are shipped the day they are placed. The demand for limited supplies will occasionally deplete our stock of a paticular product, in this case it will generally take an additional 1 - 2 business days to receive the product and fufill the order.
Although it is rare, if there was a packing error, we would like to resolve it for you! In the event that we shipped an incorrect item, we may ask you to hold on to those items and the exsisting packaging so that we can arrange for a return pick up. If you find that items are missing from your order, we are happy to assist you in reshipping the missing items or processing a credit for the missing item/items. Occasionally a chosen vintage of a wine may sell out or be replaced by a new release after your order is placed. Bottles of wine that are under $20, will not hold up an order and we will simply automatically substitute the wine with the comparable vintage. Please be assured that we will only substitute with a vintage for the same wine. Wine that is valued more than $20 per bottle, we will attempt to contact the customer. After two attempts, the available vintage will be automatically shipped out. (The return policy of $15 return shipping costs, and 15% restocking fee will be enforced.)
Yiannis Wine will not be held liable for damages to orders due to weather conditions during shipping. Potential exposure to extreme heat or cold may damage items during shipping. As we can not be held responsible for products damaged due to weather, we suggest you choose FedEx Express to ship your items and/or add ice packs to your order (during extreme heat) to help prevent damages. We can also place your orders on weather hold until weather conditions improve. Wine is usually fine if it is exposed to some heat (as that is the way wine is made.....Heated so the yeast is activated). If your wine is warm, please place them in a cool, dark room so the wine can "settle."
Most returns will be accepted, but ALL bottles must be returned to get credit. A half bottle or empty bottle of something that did not taste GOOD is fine to return, but the customer will not receive full credit if the bottle is not included.
Sometimes an order is returned to our warehouse after several delivery attempts at the address provided by the customer. We are happy to reship the order however, reshipment fees will apply. Please contact us and we will assist you with the reshipment arrangements.
We are happy to assist with any returns for items purchased that you no longer want or need. Please let us know and we will arrange for the return and issue a credit or refund for your returned items, less the return shipping and handling charges.
