Dom Pérignon - Oenothèque Brut Champagne 1995 (750ml)
Dom Pérignon - Oenothèque Brut Champagne 1995 (750ml)
Dom Perignon Oenotheque / As the custodian of Dom Perignon's history and style, Geoffroy watches over a few samples of each vintage in his OEnotheque, the Chef de Cave's wine cellar. In the OEnotheque, the wine continues to mature for years and even decades, and is reborn with each metamorphosis of time, for Dom Perignon is unanimously recognized for its impressive aging potential. As Geoffroy puts it, "Dom Perignon OEnotheque is the ultimate expression of a wine whose style defies time."
Geoffroy's commitment to the OEnotheque program, which began with the 1990 vintage, involves ongoing personal research on each vintage. The effect of time on the bottled wine retains its share of mystery and surprise even for him.
Dom Perignon keeps pushing one step further, sometimes rewriting the rules, to pave the path for renewed experiences. So does OEnotheque, glorifying the exclusive process of actively aging a wine on its lees to offer a magnified style through re-releases. OEnotheque prolongs the character of the original vintage wine, coming ever closer to the ideal Dom Perignon. The patience of wine lovers is now rewarded with a deeper, more intimate discovery and perception of Dom Perignon. The current vintage is put in proper perspective by giving a glimpse of the aging potential. It would now be virtually impossible for me to imagine Dom Perignon without its OEnotheque expression.
The Harvest
The year was notable for its exceptional summer: A fairly overcast spring meant that the vines flowered late by quickly. The summer compensated for the spring, with a heat wave arriving at the end of June. For two months, there was hardly any rain, just a few isolated clouds and above-normal temperatures that seat a 30 year record. the harvest began on September 18 for the Chardonnay and September 25 for the Pinot Noir grapes.
The 1995 Vintage
A welcome relief after some difficult years in the region. Quantity-wise, it was the seventh high-cropping year in a row. But, in 1995, the quality also excelled, and particularly so for Chardonnay. There were significant frost damages during the spring and the warm but wet weather in the summer ignited mildew and rot problems. The vines cropped heavily and rigorous vineyard work and selection during harvest led to best results. Harvest commenced on September 18th and yielded grapes of a fine balance of sugar and acidity. The vintage has turned out to be much better than first expected and it has emerged from the shadow of the much-hyped 1996. This vintage is marked by elegance of its inviting fruitiness, beautiful balance and slow-building finesse. Its greatest examples include Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millenaires, Dom Perignon (whole range), Louis Roederer Crista and Cristal Rose, Bollinger R.d, Krug Vintage and Taittinger Comtes de Champagne.

The 1995 Dom Perignon Oenothéque is the second release of this wine, and was disgorged in 2005. This silky-textured Champagne reveals breathtaking finesse, elegance and clarity in its perfumed bouquet, with delicate notes of pears and roasted nuts that add further complexity. The finish goes on and on. This mind-bending, kaleidoscopic Champagne possesses all of the qualities of profoundness, most importantly the ability to develop beautifully in the glass and the potential to acquire even more depth in bottle over the coming years. 1995 was a hot vintage, but this wine remains remarkably fresh. Simply put, the 1995 Oenotheque is a stunner. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2029. (AG) (12/2008)
95 points Wine Enthusiast
One of a series of limited releases of older vintages of Dom Pérignon, this wine is showing the mature richness of the vintage and of the Dom Pérignon style. It has toast, yeast, roasted almonds, a powerhouse of ripe fruits and a smooth, creamy aftertaste. Let this wine breathe before drinking, it will be worth it. (12/2008)

Rich in texture and beautifully balanced, showing lemon, honey, floral and peach notes. There's just a hint of toast and brine. This is lively and reveals candied citrus on the lingering aftertaste. Excellent length. Disgorged in 2005. Drink now through 2020. (BS) (6/2009)

Stunning nose, and absolutely electric palate. So serious, so sophisticated – up there with the best. Brioche, smoke, apple, spice – take your pick. This is exemplary mature champagne, and the strength of the vintage shows. 18.5/20 points. (RH) (9/2013)

Occasionally a chosen vintage of a wine may sell out or be replaced by a new release after your order is placed. Bottles of wine that are under $20, will not hold up an order and we will simply automatically substitute the wine with the comparable vintage. Please be assured that we will only substitute with a vintage for the same wine. Wine that is valued more than $20 per bottle, we will attempt to contact the customer. After two attempts, the available vintage will be automatically shipped out. (The return policy of $15 return shipping costs, and 15% restocking fee will be enforced.)
Yiannis Wine will not be held liable for damages to orders due to weather conditions during shipping. Potential exposure to extreme heat or cold may damage items during shipping. As we can not be held responsible for products damaged due to weather, we suggest you choose FedEx Express to ship your items and/or add ice packs to your order (during extreme heat) to help prevent damages. We can also place your orders on weather hold until weather conditions improve. Wine is usually fine if it is exposed to some heat (as that is the way wine is made.....Heated so the yeast is activated). If your wine is warm, please place them in a cool, dark room so the wine can "settle."
Most returns will be accepted, but ALL bottles must be returned to get credit. A half bottle or empty bottle of something that did not taste GOOD is fine to return, but the customer will not receive full credit if the bottle is not included.
