TO HAVE THREE EXCELLENT HARVESTS ONE AFTER THE OTHER IS A VERY RARE FACT BUT IN 2020, 2021 AND 2022 IT HAPPENED WITH THE LATTER BEING THE MOST SCARCE AND HIGHEST QUALITY OF ALL
All wine producers want it but it almost never happens. <<In my professional career it is the first time I have seen a trio of TOP harvests and I have been in the world of wine for over forty years>> said Donatella Cinelli Colombini complaining about only one thing: there were three scarce harvests, especially the last.
Few very good and healthy grapes due to the 2021 frost which extended its effects into the following year and above all due to the seven months of drought which put to the test the vines and the grape-growers who were forced to continuously hoe the soli. 2022 was a very hot year and budding occurred early, also leading to an early harvest compared to the normal calendar. Sangiovese bunches were small, sparse, perfectly ripe with berries the size of chickpeas. The grapes that every producer would like to bring to the cellar but, they were in minimal quantities.
The small calibre of the grapes and their thick skins have allowed the creation of very structured and long-lived wines
WHAT IS CHIANTI SUPERIORE
The superior type indicates a Chianti with superior quality characteristics and cellaring ability. It is produced from vineyards with greater vocation and lower production. In this case it is a certified BIO Chianti Superiore and a “farmhouse” wine as we call it in Tuscany, that is, a “family wine” born from the property’s vineyards, and then vinified, matured and bottled by the same estate.
FATTORIA DEL COLLE
The farm was built by the ancestors of the current owner, Donatella Cinelli Colombini in 1592. It covers an area of 334 hectares on high hills (400 meters above sea level) where the soil has a prevalence of marine sands and Pliocene sandstones. The biodiversity and integrity of the landscape are maintained thanks to the woods and the alternation of vineyards, olive groves and fields of cereals.
TYPE: dry red.
PRODUCTION AREA: Tuscany, Trequanda, Fattoria del Colle
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VINTAGE: hot and arid vintage. The summer was interrupted by a huge disturbance on August 18th which helped the vines in the ripening phase. For this reason, at the time of harvest the analytical parameters of the grapes were perfect.
GRAPE VARIETY: Sangiovese with small additions of other varieties authorized in Tuscany
HARVEST: From September 8th to 26th. Manual harvesting with selection of the bunches in the vineyard and the grapes on the sorting table in the cellar.
VINIFICATION: Regular and very delicate vinifications so as not to increase the quantity of tannins which was spontaneously very high. Due to the cold nights, the temperature of the musts spontaneously remained within ideal parameters. Due to the significant presence of tannins, the macerations with the skins were longer than usual and the placing of the wine in the barrel was brought forward to before Christmas.
QUANTITY: 28,000 bottles
TASTING AND TABLE SERVICE OF CHIANTI SUPERIORE 2022
COLOUR: bright ruby red
AROMA: vinous in its references to Sangiovese grapes with its characteristic hint of sweet violets. Fine with clear references to ripe red fruits such as cherry, plum, blueberry and ending with some floral suggestions.
TASTE: full, harmonious and intense. The structure and tannins, although evident, appear silky and balanced by the flavour. Excellent and pleasant persistence.
FOOD PAIRING: it is a gastronomic wine, that is, it was created to accompany food. Chianti Superiore is very versatile and goes well with typical Italian dishes based on pasta, meat, cheese or cold cuts but also fusion cuisines or dishes from other cultures such as non-spicy Chinese or Indian preparations
TABLE SERVICE: room temperature (18-20°C), white crystal tulip-shaped glasses.
CELLARING: 4-5 years after the harvest. Keep the bottles lying down, in the dark and cold.

There is an additional charge to re-route orders already in transit.
Some items are removed from original packaging, and placed in protective shipping containers to ensure safe delivery.
While most orders are shipped the day they are placed. The demand for limited supplies will occasionally deplete our stock of a paticular product, in this case it will generally take an additional 1 - 2 business days to receive the product and fufill the order.
Although it is rare, if there was a packing error, we would like to resolve it for you! In the event that we shipped an incorrect item, we may ask you to hold on to those items and the exsisting packaging so that we can arrange for a return pick up. If you find that items are missing from your order, we are happy to assist you in reshipping the missing items or processing a credit for the missing item/items. Occasionally a chosen vintage of a wine may sell out or be replaced by a new release after your order is placed. Bottles of wine that are under $20, will not hold up an order and we will simply automatically substitute the wine with the comparable vintage. Please be assured that we will only substitute with a vintage for the same wine. Wine that is valued more than $20 per bottle, we will attempt to contact the customer. After two attempts, the available vintage will be automatically shipped out. (The return policy of $15 return shipping costs, and 15% restocking fee will be enforced.)
Yiannis Wine will not be held liable for damages to orders due to weather conditions during shipping. Potential exposure to extreme heat or cold may damage items during shipping. As we can not be held responsible for products damaged due to weather, we suggest you choose FedEx Express to ship your items and/or add ice packs to your order (during extreme heat) to help prevent damages. We can also place your orders on weather hold until weather conditions improve. Wine is usually fine if it is exposed to some heat (as that is the way wine is made.....Heated so the yeast is activated). If your wine is warm, please place them in a cool, dark room so the wine can "settle."
Most returns will be accepted, but ALL bottles must be returned to get credit. A half bottle or empty bottle of something that did not taste GOOD is fine to return, but the customer will not receive full credit if the bottle is not included.
Sometimes an order is returned to our warehouse after several delivery attempts at the address provided by the customer. We are happy to reship the order however, reshipment fees will apply. Please contact us and we will assist you with the reshipment arrangements.
We are happy to assist with any returns for items purchased that you no longer want or need. Please let us know and we will arrange for the return and issue a credit or refund for your returned items, less the return shipping and handling charges.
