Pétrus Pomerol 1996 (750ml)
Pétrus Pomerol 1996 (750ml)
Drinking Petrus may be an unforgettable experience. We have been lucky to have the opportunity to taste most of its great vintages. That is why wine enthusiasts often come to us for advice. First, we advise you to choose a good vintage, an excellent one if your wallet allows. If you taste a poor vintage, you will notice how it raises abouve most other wines of the same vintage, but you will miss the actual point of Petrus.
Second, purchase wine that is at least 10 to 20 years old, because young Petrus is difficult to approach, besides which oak and tananins predominate in its taste. Young Petrus may be impressive, but it ages fantastically and requiresmore time that any other Pomerl wine to reach its culmination. Finally, we would advies you to decant the wine with care and well in advance, and also give ti time to develop in the flass. Then you will have the opportunity to enjoy and unforgettable experience.
Little known 50 years ago, this chateau has seen the rise of a myth about the uniqueness of its wine. The wine's inimatibility is due to many factors, first of all, an exceptional terroir - 40 meters above seal lever, the highest point of the appellation - with a layer of heavy clay soil and an iron subsoil. These are ideal conditions for the expression of the Merlot grape. With such a special terroir, the approach to the vineyard and cellar is traditional and respectful.
The work done in the vineyard is fastidious - severe pruning in the winter, regular ploughing, crop-thinning, de-leafing, manicuring the clusters in the summer - and allows the perfect ripening of the fruit. The approach in the vineyard and cellar is traditional and respectful.
Fermentation is carried out gently, without any overextraction, in temperature-controlled concrete tanks. The blend, very often pure Merlot, is defined in December and the young wine is aged in 100% new oak barrels.
This property made famous by Edmond Loubat and then my Monsieur Jean-Peirre Moueix, culminates at 130 feet on the plateau of Pomerl. Jean-Moueix is responsible for the cultivation, vinification, and ageing as well as the export distribution of Petrus Wines.
The vineyard of Petrus is very small, only just over 11 hectares and the chateau is a small unspectacular building. This is typical for Pomerol. Whereas the top properties in Medoc were owned by nobility, wealthy financiers and powerful wine merchants who enlarged their vineyards over centuries adding impressive mansions to match the reputation of the wines and their owners, the typical properties in Pomerol were much smaller and owned by local families living and farming the wines themselves.
The phenomenonal rise in reputation of the wines of Petrus and its prices is quite recent - it did not obtain higher prices that a second or third growth from Medoc until the 1960s. It was the 1982 vintage that really set the prices for Petrus soaring - in the spring of 1983 it was sold at the same price as the premier crus but only a year later it was traded at more than twice the price of these. It now sells at about four times that of Mouton or Cheval Blanc - two of the superstars of the vintage.
Bordeauxs most intensely concentrated, richly flavored and unique red wine. An incredible power, depth and richness yet a remarkable balance with penetrating aromas of ripe mulberry, black currant and fruit and spicy vanilla oak, setting it apart from all Bordeauxs finest wines.

Wild aromas of crushed fruit, forest flower and wild mushrooms. Full-bodied, with incredibly velvety tannins that go on and on. Lovely and exciting fruit. Gorgeous, seductive wine. Hard to resist now. Better than I remember.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2007.

Some items are removed from original packaging, and placed in protective shipping containers to ensure safe delivery.
While most orders are shipped the day they are placed. The demand for limited supplies will occasionally deplete our stock of a paticular product, in this case it will generally take an additional 1 - 2 business days to receive the product and fufill the order.

Occasionally a chosen vintage of a wine may sell out or be replaced by a new release after your order is placed. Bottles of wine that are under $20, will not hold up an order and we will simply automatically substitute the wine with the comparable vintage. Please be assured that we will only substitute with a vintage for the same wine. Wine that is valued more than $20 per bottle, we will attempt to contact the customer. After two attempts, the available vintage will be automatically shipped out. (The return policy of $15 return shipping costs, and 15% restocking fee will be enforced.)
Yiannis Wine will not be held liable for damages to orders due to weather conditions during shipping. Potential exposure to extreme heat or cold may damage items during shipping. As we can not be held responsible for products damaged due to weather, we suggest you choose FedEx Express to ship your items and/or add ice packs to your order (during extreme heat) to help prevent damages. We can also place your orders on weather hold until weather conditions improve. Wine is usually fine if it is exposed to some heat (as that is the way wine is made.....Heated so the yeast is activated). If your wine is warm, please place them in a cool, dark room so the wine can "settle."
Most returns will be accepted, but ALL bottles must be returned to get credit. A half bottle or empty bottle of something that did not taste GOOD is fine to return, but the customer will not receive full credit if the bottle is not included.

We are happy to assist with any returns for items purchased that you no longer want or need. Please let us know and we will arrange for the return and issue a credit or refund for your returned items, less the return shipping and handling charges.
